Incentives by MEDC will help create jobs

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation Tuesday approved incentives that would create up to 226 jobs in Metro Detroit and another 160 statewide.

The state approved a $500,000 grant so Alternative Automotive Technologies LLC would invest up to $5.7 million to relocate to an empty brownfield site in Troy, rehabilitate the property and expand operations there, creating up to 176 jobs. The Troy-based company designs and builds prototype vehicles and after-market performance enhancement items.

Mayser Polymer USA received a $2000,000 incentive to expand its Canton Township operations where it makes anti-pinch sensors that prevent power windows and other vehicle parts from closing on people. The company plans to spend $3.9 million to create an estimated 50 new jobs. The township is offering a three-year $68,000 property tax break.

Elsewhere, MERSEN USA Midland is getting a $320,000 incentive to relocate and expand its manufacturing operations in Williams Charter Township. The company plans to spend $21.3 million in a project that would create 32 jobs.

The largest incentive awarded Tuesday was $800,000 for Pinnacle Food Group to move its Millsboro, Delaware pickle operations to an expanded Imlay City facility where Vlasic pickles are made. Pinnacle will create 29 positions.

RSB Transmissions NA, which makes auto and heavy equipment parts, plans to build a 66,000-square-foot factory to expand in the village of Homer and create 100 jobs. The firm plans to invest $14.4 million and get a $350,000 incentive.
