Vehicle Electrification Focus of Macomb Community College’s 2019 Center for Advanced Automotive Technology Conference

Is Electrification the Future? will be the focus of Macomb Community College’s 2019 Center for Advanced Automotive Technology (CAAT) Conference, Friday May 10, from 8 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. on the college’s South Campus in Warren. The automotive industry’s focus and the market acceptance of electric vehicles as well as educational initiatives aimed at building a STEM workforce will be discussed.

Keynote speaker Jeff Lowinger, president, eMobility, Vehicle Group, Eaton, will discuss the automotive industry’s continued focus on electric vehicles and the current state of market acceptance. He will also cover the growing charging network including fast charging, charge rate and range anxiety. Lowinger is responsible for Eaton’s development of electrified components and power management technology for on- and off-road vehicles.

Other speakers include Megan Schrauben, executive director, MiSTEM Network, State of Michigan, who will discuss Michigan’s STEM activities to better prepare students for the growing number of jobs in STEM-related fields. Stephanie Beckhorn, director, Michigan Workforce Development Agency, will cover efforts among federal, state and local partners to implement workforce and education programs, as well as develop policies that support the state’s key workforce strategies.

Several local students will also share their experience with STEM pathways during a panel discussion, moderated by Douglas Baltz, STEM instructional leader, Birmingham Public Schools.

This free conference is designed to provide up-to-date and actionable information for automotive industry representatives as well as secondary and post-secondary automotive educators and counselors.
